Can I incorporate an existing work into a new song?
What to know about derivative works and how to get publisher permission before incorporating existing music into a new song.
If your intended use involves a change to the original musical work, it may be considered a derivative work. To make changes to a musical work, you must obtain permission directly from the music publisher. HFA cannot authorize the creation of derivative works. An HFA mechanical license does not authorize the licensee to change the musical work.
