What does it mean to be an HFA affiliate?

Overview of HFA’s role as your licensing agent and the benefits of affiliation for publishers.

By affiliating with HFA, you authorize HFA to issue to licensees its mechanical license, which is a variance on the compulsory license available under Section 115 of the U.S. Copyright Act. You are also able to authorize HFA to represent you for uses by public broadcasters, like PBS, and to opt-into industry-wide agreements involving reproduction and distribution of musical works.

Affiliation provides the following benefits:

  • Royalty compliance services
  • Income tracking services
  • Affiliate-only licensing opportunities
  • Online song registration and reporting tools
  • A variety of online reports and analytical tools
  • License management and reporting tools

In return for the services mentioned above, HFA will receive a commission on the royalties derived from any HFA-issued licenses, unless otherwise specified. The current HFA commission is 15%, which is subject to change upon HFA's notification to you.
