What is the mechanical licensing collective (MLC)?

The Music Modernization Act of 2018 (the MMA) established a new statutory blanket license covering the use of musical works by eligible U.S. digital audio services. Pursuant to the MMA, the U.S. Copyright Office designated the Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC) to administer that new blanket license.

In accordance with the MMA, as of January 1, 2021, The MLC is responsible for issuing blanket licenses to, and receiving royalties from, digital service providers.

Important: HFA no longer reports, collects, or distributes royalties from these streaming services.  To receive payments from The MLC, you must register an account.
