What is the MLC?
The Music Modernization Act of 2018 (the MMA) established a new statutory blanket license covering the use of musical works by eligible U.S. digital audio services. Pursuant to the MMA, the U.S. Copyright Office designated the Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC) to administer that new blanket license.
In accordance with the MMA, HFA transferred royalty collection duties from DSPs such as Apple Music and Spotify to The MLC on January 1, 2021.
Important: HFA no longer reports, collects, or distributes royalties from these streaming services. To receive payments from The MLC, you must register an account.
