What is the Songfile streaming license rate?
Understanding Songfile Licenses for Streaming
If you plan to make available musical works for interactive streaming on your website or other platform that does not have a license from The MLC, and you plan on permitting less than 10,000 streams (otherwise known as "plays"), you may be able to obtain a limited quantity mechanical license through HFA's Songfile® service at www.songfile.com. An "interactive stream" typically involves the online transmission of a musical work embodied in an audio-only sound recording where the transmission is initiated by an end user to the platform. The royalty rate for interactive streams via Songfile is $0.01 per stream. For example, if you intend on limiting the number of streams to 500, the royalty amount would $5.00. If you intend to upload to your sound recording to a third-party platform, then you may be covered by licenses obtained by that third-party platform. Third-party platforms typically secure their own licenses for the musical works they make available. If you're distributing content through one of these platforms, you should contact them directly to confirm whether you need an individual license.
